With 25 years of experience and well-honed expertise in media, First Amendment, intellectual property, civil litigation and appellate practice, the Law Office of Steven D. Zansberg, LLC is committed to protecting its clients’ rights and help them resolve legal disputes in efficient, cost effective ways.
Having devoted his legal career to defending freedom of speech, “or of The Press,” Steve left “Big Law” in 2021 to launch a solo law practice. The primary reason: to offer his services at dramatically lower rates, which the news industry – beset by unprecedented economic challenges – requires to survive and flourish.
Steve also contributes hundreds of hours annually to pro bono representation of reporters, news outlets, and others in seeking access, under freedom of information laws, to governmental records, and working to improve statutes, regulations, and court rules governing such access.
FIRST AMENDMENT LAW
Steve has litigated numerous cases presenting complex questions of First Amendment law, including prior restraints, libel, invasion of privacy, reporter's privilege, and retaliation for editorial content, in both state and federal courts across the nation. He has also authored numerous articles in trade journals on these subjects and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers in the area of First Amendment litigation.
Steve has handled dozens of commercial disputes, both in pre-litigation negotiations and in court, including breach of contract, unfair competition, tortious interference, and associated business disputes.
Steve has litigated several copyright, trademark, right of publicity, trade dress and trade secrets cases in state and federal courts in Colorado, and California.
For 25 years, Steve has represented local and national media companies, online publishers, and individuals in defending claims based on content, fighting subpoenas, and seeking access to government information and proceedings.
